History of Belle Oaks Inn

The Greek Revival mansion was built in 1912 by banker C.E. Dilworth for his wife Leonora Kockernot. It was their family home for many years. In the 1950s, the mansion was used as dorm rooms for doctors and nurses working at the nearby Warm Springs Rehabilitation Hospital. When polio was cured and Warm Springs no longer needed such a large staff, the house was purchased by the Boothe Family in 1961. The Family converted the home back into a private residence. After their deaths in the early 1980s, their son, John Ross Boothe Jr boarded up the house which sat vacant for many years.
